SHOTS FIRED ON WILD OAK: CERES - Two men stood outside a house in the 3500 block of Wild Oak Drive in Ceres Monday, Oct. 8 and fired at least 25 rounds into it and cars parked in the driveway.

Residents were home at the time of the 1:53 a.m. shooting but nobody was injured.

Neighbors say they saw two Asian males in their early 20s opening fire on the property. One suspect was described as heavyset, wearing a grey sweatshirt and beanie with a bill. The other man was thinner and wearing a white T-shirt and long black pants.

They both ran to a dark grey older pickup, possibly a Toyota, which had a getaway driver behind the wheel. The vehicle fled eastbound on Wild Oak.

Police found 9 mm and .25-caliber casings at the scene.

BURGLARY SUSPECT ARRESTED: CERES - Ceres Police have arrested a Delhi man days after he was seen roaming through neighborhoods attempting to open garage doors with some type of transmitter.

Detectives tracked down Nick Salsedo, 26, of Delhi, on Oct. 10 after he got away from officers during an Oct. 3 pursuit.

Police received a call reporting the suspicious man in the Kinser and Blaker area.

While patrolling at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 3, at Kinser and Larrynell, Officer Carlos Quiroz spotted a white Lincoln Continental which matched the description given to dispatchers. The suspect did not respond to an attempted traffic stop and led the officer on a pursuit. The suspect got onto Highway 99 and exited into downtown Modesto, blowing through stop signs and signal lights. The officer terminated the pursuit in the area of College and Woodrow. He got a license plate number and a good look at the suspect.

Police determined that the suspect was Salsedo and arrested him on Wednesday. He was charged with felony evading an officer. Officers found the transmitter, which could lead to a possession of burglary tools charge.

MEN ATTACKED ON LINDA WAY: CERES - A 42-year-old Ceres woman escaped injury when she crashed into a pole at the southeast corner of Hatch and Mitchell Thursday evening, but her husband did not fare as well. He sustained facial injuries in the 10:18 p.m. crash on Oct. 11.

Lisa Garcia, 42, of Ceres, was arrested and charged with felony driving under the influence.

The couple was on their way home when it appears that she took the corner onto eastbound Hatch Road from northbound Mitchell Road at a high rate of speed and lost control.

FELONY DUI CRASH: CERES - Three men were attacked by a second group of men in the 2000 block of Linda Way Saturday, Oct. 6 after the victims were robbed of their beer in a first robbery.

All three men were treated for their injuries at a local hospital. A 26-year-old male victim suffered six cuts to the head. The other victims were 19 and 27 years old.

The victims reported that they were drinking beer in front of a residence at approximately 8:15 p.m. when they were approached by three males in a red Chevy S-10 pickup. Six men were riding in the pickup, three in the cab and three lying down in the bed. The men in the bed got up and were carrying clubs or bats. One of the suspects declared he was a member of the Norteno gang and asked what their gang affiliation was. The victims said they weren't members of any gang. The six took the unopened beer containers and left.

The victims remained at the scene. At approximately10:55 p.m. the suspects returned, this time demanding money. One victim offered cash but got struck in the head with a beer bottle, held by the necks as weapons. The six started beating the men with fists and kicking them.

All six suspects were described as Latino. One suspect was described as 5-foot-5 and weighing 140 pounds. Another assailant was described as being about 22 years of age, 5-foot-9, 200 pounds, wearing a black shirt with grey and white horizontal stripes and black shoulder length hair. A third suspect was described as tall and thin, aged 22, 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, shaved head, adn wearing black T-shirt and blue jeans. A fourth suspect was described as 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, wearing grey shirt with white stripes, and grey pants.

The three men denied they were involved in any gangs.

PREGNANT MOM GIVES BIRTH WHILE HIGH: CERES - Police were called to a mobilehome park in the 2500 block of Don Pedro early Thursday on the report that a 39-year-old pregnant mother was under the influence of controlled subnstance and running away from her mother going into labor.

Police located the woman after being called at 3:59 a.m. She told police that she did not want to give birth at the hospital for fear she would be tested dirty, said Police Division Commander Mike Borges. The woman did go to the hospital where she delivered her child.

Police did not arrest the woman but are seeking charges of child endangerment and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

SPINNING DOUGHNUTS NETS TROUBLE : CERES - A Ceres teen is in trouble with vandalism charges after he got stuck in Roeding Heights Park during Friday's deluge of rain.

Bobby Fouts, 18, allegedly drove his vehicle into the park's mushy ground and became stuck, police said. He was arrested at 7:23 p.m.

SHOTS FIRED ON MALIK: CERES - Even though shots were fired into his house and 1978 Camaro, a victim in Saturday's shooting in the 3000 block of Malik Drive was uncooperative with Ceres Police.

Mike Borges, commander of the Police Division, said that seven .40-caliber rounds were found in the house and vehicle in the 12:44 a.m. shooting.

Police have little to go on. Borges said the victim did not cooperate with suspect information. Fifteen minutes prior to the shooting an unknown subject was seen beating the car with a baseball bat but the owner did not call police.

Borges said crime in Westpointe has been on the rise because Strawberry Fields Park has been a hangout for Surreno members. He said police do not have the manpower to patrol the park more than it needs to get a handle on the problem.

BEER RUN LEADS TO DUI CRASH: CERES - A suspect identified as the man who stole beer from ARS Market was the same man who crashed his car into another car later that night, police said.

The market in the 3500 block of Central Avenue was the scene of a "beer run" on Sunday morning at 7:54 a.m. Police say that Uriel Iniquez, 21, went into store and grabbed two cases of beer without paying for them and ran to a waiting vehicle. Someone who saw the theft attempt to grab Iniquez as he dove into the car headfirst, but only was successful in pulling his pants down to his thighs. The thief sped off.

At 12:27 p.m. Sunday there was a rear-end crash at Moffet and Hatch where Iniquez was identified as the driver. Iniquez was intoxicated, said Officer Tonya Smith. He was identified as the man who stole the beer earlier in the day.

He was charged with second-degree burglary and DUI.

SHOOTING UP IN HOMELESS CAMP: CERES - A 35-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning after he was seen attempting to shoot drugs into his arm in a homeless camp near Big O Tires at Hatch and Herndon.

At 10:45 a.m. Sunday Sgt. Jose Berber was checking out the open field frequented by homeless persons as he rolled up the Hatch Road overpass. He saw a female and male using a controlled substance. Berber parked his patrol car and walked towards the couple and saw George Franzia, 35, about to inject. Franzia ran through the Big O lot past Starbucks and then towards 7-Eleven and over a fence. Berber caught Franzia hiding in the backyard of a residence at 1300 block of Bluejay. The needle that he tossed during the chase was located.

Franzia told the police that he was on parole and didn't want to go back to prison. He is being charged with possession of a needle, and a parole violation. The owner of the fence noticed the damage done to it but told officers "You guys did your jobs so don't worry about it."

STOLEN PICKUP, SUSPECT SEIZED: CERES - Ceres police retrieved a stolen vehicle early yesterday and arrested the alleged thief.

Auto theft detective Jeremy Caron found the stolen 1984 Toyota pickup in the 1100 block of Stonum Road and watched Dustin Walker, 20, get in it and begin to flee. Walker led police on a two-minute, one-mile pursuit that only reached speeds of 45 mph.

Stop strips were laid down during the 12:45 p.m. pursuit but Walker missed it. Instead two patrol cars sustained damaged tires. Walker bailed on foot in the 1600 block of Woodworth with officers in pursuit as he jumped fences.

The vehicle had been stolen out of Ceres.

Walker was charged with two felony warrants out of Calaveras County, auto theft, possession of stolen propery and evading arrest.
