• SSAULT RIFLE, FELON SCOOPED UP: CERES - A felon living in the 1400 block of Holm Avenue was arrested Saturday morning after the Ceres SWAT team served a search warrant and located a AKA 47 style assault rifle.

At 7 a.m. CYA parolee Thomas Lema, 23, was arrested and charged with possession of an assault rifle, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The Ceres Street Crimes Unit pursued the warrant after reports that an assault rifle was being fired occasionally in Lema's backyard.

"It takes a lot of work and a lot of money to do these SWAT team exercises but we have to be careful with a convicted felon having a gun like that and we're not going to take chance with that," said Ceres Police Lt. Brent Smith.

•BURGLARS STRIKE FARM SUPPLY: CERES - Stanislaus Farm Supply on Service Road reported being victimized by thieves who broke into the yard by cutting through a chain-link fence on Sunday.

The crime was reported at 4:23 p.m. A pressure washer was taken and vehicles were entered with some keys missing.

•STORE BURGLARIZED: CERES - A commercial burglary was reported Sunday, April 10 at Valley Mart, 1460 Mitchell Road, where suspects gained entry through the wall on the west side of the business.

Police took a report at 4:18 a.m. Details were sketchy on what was taken. Police have no leads on suspects.

•TEEN ARRESTED WITH STOLEN CAR: CERES - A 14-year-old Ceres boy was arrested Friday, April 8, after he ran from a stolen car near the intersection of Holm and Musick avenues.

Officer James Riley was rolling through the neighborhood north of Hatch Road at 1:54 a.m. when he saw two persons duck inside of a black Acura Integra. When the officer stopped to investigate, the two ran off. One was apprehended.

The car was an unreported stolen car taken from a residence on Glasgow Drive. Evidence suggested the two were in the process of stripping the car.

The other suspect got away.

The teen is being charged with auto theft, possession of stolen property and conspiracy to commit a crime.
