A 37-year-old Aromas man was arrested Saturday evening on multiple charges after he led Ceres Police on a pursuit in Ceres.

At approximately 11:44 p.m., Officer Eric Souza was patrolling the area of Mitchell and Hatch roads when the rider of a red-colored Honda motorcycle passed him at a high-rate of speed. Officer Souza caught up to the motorcycle in the area of Central Avenue near Evans Road and attempted to initiate a stop. The rider, William Garrett, failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department helicopter joined the pursuit as officers backed off due to the dangers of an active pursuit.

Garrett was seen laying down the motorcycle in a dirt field in the 6400 block of Central Avenue and fleeing on foot.

Garrett entered an open garage of a residence as several officers established a perimeter. Garrett was later located inside the home.

A records check revealed Garrett was on parole and had an out-of-state warrant for his arrest. Additionally, it was learned that he had been riding a stolen motorcycle.

As Garrett was being booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, jail staff found him to be in possession of over 16 grams of suspected methamphetamine he was attempting to smuggle into the jail. Garrett was booked for evading police in a vehicle, driving against traffic while evading, vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, smuggling a controlled substance into a jail facility, the felony warrant and a parole violation.
