Ceres Cop Car

An employee of Charter Spectrum Cable TV was arrested Tuesday afternoon, April 10 after he allegedly ran into a parked car while drunk and fled the scene.

Police were called at 1:15 p.m. about a hit and run crash at 3329 Perisburg Lane. Witnesses said that the male driver of a white Charter Spectrum truck attempted a three-point turn midblock, and backed into the rear of a parked Toyota Camry. The impact displaced the Toyota 10 feet. The driver then sped off, turning northbound onto Suffolk Drive. Witnesses said that prior to the crash, the driver and a female had a verbal spat inside the truck before she got out and the truck sped away.

Sgt. Travis Hudson located a Charter Spectrum truck parked in the 1700 block of Norfolk approximately two-tenths of a mile from the crash. A man and women near the truck matched the description of the people involved. A witness was able to positively identify the two as being the same as the ones involved in the collision.

Nelson Moreno, 39, of Ceres, denied striking the Toyota and said he was having a talk with his girlfriend at the nearby park but was not fighting. Officer Jeffery Podvin detected signs that Moreno was impaired and had Moreno perform field sobriety test. He provided a breath sample which revealed he was over twice the legal limit. Officer Ross Bays sound a nearly empty bottle of New Amsterdam brand Vodka in the center of the Charter Spectrum truck between the front seats. He also located a coffee mug with vodka inside in the cup holder.

Moreno was booked on charges of misdemeanor DUI and hit and run.
