Ceres police detectives are searching for a man who abducted a Ceres woman from her home in the 1600 block of Rita Lane early Sunday morning. The woman later escaped.

Two men, one armed with a handgun, entered the victim's home through a partially opened garage door at approximately 3:65 a.m. on June 28. A 48-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were sitting in the garage when the men burst in and pointed a handgun at them. The pair demanded to know the whereabouts of a 27-year-old female who was inside. They went into the house, located her and dragged her out of the house and into a sliver sub compact car. They then fled.

Police were called from a neighbor's house. But one of the suspects walked back to the house, then made off with a 1997 Suzuki motorcycle. The owner gave chase in his car, the intentionally rammed it to stop the suspect at Hatch and Mitchell.

Witnesses said the suspect fled to Wal-Mart, prompting police to evacuate the store with help from sheriff's deputies. After nearly two hours of searching with a police canine, the suspect was determined out of the building.

Detectives are seeking to arrest parolee Joseph Womack, 41, of Modesto. He is described as white, approximately 5-foot-7, 115 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Womack is also wanted for violating his parole. Police said Womack may have been injured.

Anyone with information about Womack's whereabouts is asked to contact the Ceres Police, Detective Keith Griebel at 538-5627 or Ceres Police Dispatch at 538-5713
