A Tuesday evening, Nov. 29 crash in Hughson resulted in the death of a Ceres woman.

The collision occurred on Whitmore Avenue between Seventh Street and Euclid Avenue when Evelyn Mendosa, 79, was struck by an eastbound pickup at before 8 p.m. The pickup driver stopped the vehicle in the eastbound lane between the exit of the Hughson High School parking lot and a student pedestrian gate. The area is not well lit.

The woman was rushed to a Modesto hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Anthony Bejeran said that the driver remained on scene and that alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a cause.
