If you have business to do at Ceres City Hall, you'd better schedule it soon. City Hall will be closed Dec. 24 all the way through Sunday, Jan. 4 and won't reopen until Monday, Jan. 5.

The city gives its employees holidays of Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day as well as Dec. 31 and New Year's Day. To make a solid 12-day vacation period, the city requires a four furlough days of Dec. 26, 29, 30 and Jan. 2.

"Staff is under the opinion that closing for the entire period would be more cost efficient," wrote City Manager Toby Wells to the City Council. "It will likely save money and will decrease accumulated compensation time leave banks."

Public safety personnel will continue to work each day. Call-outs may also be necessary for the public works crew in the event of emergencies and referred through police dispatchers.

The Ceres City Council meeting of Monday, Dec. 22 has also been cancelled and will next meet on Monday, Jan. 12, 2015.
