The California Highway Patrol identified Hector Lucatero, 32, as the man who sustained fatal injuries Monday morning when he left his vehicle parked alongside Highway 99 and walked in front of an approaching big-rig.
Lucatero appears to have committed suicide but the CHP could not confirm that he intentionally walked into the truck’s path.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. north of Keyes Road.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene and located a sedan and big-rig on the right shoulder and Lucatero on the right shoulder with major injures. He was transported by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
California Highway Patrol investigators say Lucatero stepped in front of a northbound 2022 Freightliner driven by a 48-year-old Moreno Valley man, in the slow lane. He immediately pulled over after the impact.
Lucatero, whose hometown is unknown, drove an Acura coupe to the site.
