Crash on South Ninth Street sends motorcyclist to hospital
crash

A Modesto man was thrown from his motorcycle and sent to the hospital with major injuries after he collided with a trailer pulled by a pickup at Hosmer Avenue and South Ninth Street Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:18 p.m.

Motorcycle rider Richard Conver, 64, was northbound on S. Ninth Street when the driver of a 2002 Ford towing a utility trailer pulled out in front of him while making a turn from westbound on Hosmer Avenue onto southbound Ninth Street from a stop sign. A witness told the investigating California Highway Patrol officer that Conver wasn’t speeding but there was insufficient distance for Conver to stop in time. The front of the motorcycle struck the left side of the Ford’s utility trailer and Conver was thrown onto the ground, causing major injuries. He was rushed to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

Pickup driver Mark Mead, 54, and passengers Frank Ruiz, 36, and Danell Gardeley, 26, all of Modesto, reported no injuries.

Traffic on South Ninth Street was diverted during the one-and-a-half-hour investigation.

The CHP investigator did not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.
