A Ceres motorcyclist sustained facial injuries in a crash that occurred as he was exiting the AM/PM parking lot Monday afternoon at Whitmore Avenue and Ninth Street.

The crash occurred at 5:29 p.m. as Gabriel Martinez 36, of Ceres, drove his Suzuki motorcycle out the Whitmore Avenue exit and maneuvered through traffic that was stopped for the eastbound traffic signal. When he made it to the center turn lane he was struck by an eastbound car preparing to make a northbound turn onto Moffet Road. In the crash Martinez flew off the bike and sustained lacerations to the side of his face.

Because Martinez showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol, a blood sample was drawn from him as he was being treated at a Modesto hospital. Sgt. Pat Crane said that the injuries prevented officers from giving Martinez a Breathalyzer test but his injuries were not life threatening.

Martinez was cited for driving while intoxicated and released from the hospital.
