Dollar General has broken ground on its second Ceres store.

The goal is to open the new store, at the corner of Whitmore Avenue and Malik Drive, by early summer, said Deputy City Manager/City Engineer Toby Wells.

Dollar General opened a store in the former Richland Market in May. This project is the company's first new construction project in Ceres.

Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based Dollar General Corporation is the nation's largest small-box discount retailer. The chain's website boasts: "We make shopping for everyday needs simpler and hassle-free by offering a carefully edited assortment of the most popular brands at low everyday prices in small, convenient locations."

Dollar General ranks among the largest retailers of brands that include Procter & Gamble, Kimberly Clark, Unilever, Kellogg's, General Mills and Nabisco.
