Energy-efficient upgrades coming to CUSD facilities

Ceres Unified School District is launching improvements districtwide to increase energy efficiency, reduce electrical costs, and support long-term sustainability.

Beginning in July 2026, modern LED lighting will replace approximately 22,265 light fixtures containing more than 58,500 bulbs throughout CUSD schools and other facilities. The upgrades will be completed in phases, with work scheduled mostly during non-instructional hours to minimize disruptions for students and staff.

In addition to new lighting, solar installations are in the design phase with construction expected to begin next year. Crews are currently identifying and marking underground utilities and conducting soil testing in preparation for the project.

The energy initiative will also bring electric vehicle charging stations to locations at campus and district facilities.

“These improvements will create brighter, more efficient learning and working spaces while reducing energy consumption and operational costs,” said CUSD Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Dr. Kristi Britton. “The project supports the district’s long-term fiscal and sustainability goals and will benefit our schools for years to come.”
