High-speed crash kills Hughson man

A 32-year-old Hughson man was killed in a high-speed solo crash east of Turlock early Sunday.

The California Highway Patrol reported the crash took place at 12:14 a.m. on Vincent Road, north of East Avenue.

Matthew Staack was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigating officer of the California Highway Patrol believe Staack was driving a 2020 Dodge at a high rate of speed northbound on Vincent Road when, for an unknown reason, allowed the Dodge to drift left off the west edge of the road.

Staack overcorrected and veered to the right and off the east road edge where the car collided with a power pole and continued into an orchard where it collided with multiple trees before coming to rest on it roof.

The driver, who apparently was not wearing his safety belt, was ejected.

It is unknown it alcohol and/or drugs where a factor in the crash.
