Hughson child calls 9-1-1 to report parents dead

A child’s call to 911 on Sunday morning led authorities to discover the bodies of his parents inside their Hughson home.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the home at 1705 Fontana Ranch Road in Hughson after the child phoned 911 at 9:28 a.m. Deputies found the bodies of the boy’s parents, while removing him and a sibling from the home.

One of the deceased was an employee of the Sheriff’s Department but there was no information as to which of the two or what their position.

Because Modesto Police Department officials stated that there was no threat to the community, many took that to indicate the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide.

Several internet websites, including newobituaries.site and Deathnotice247, reported the identity of the deceased man as Daniel Hutsell, a deputy with the department since 2011. However, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Sgt. Erich Layton said his department would not be able to confirm or deny any identity.

The involved departments refused to release any details, stating that the investigation is ongoing.
