Two local children have won bicycles as part of the Ceres Library's Summer Reading Program designed to encourage interest in books.

The Friends of the Ceres Library paid for a girl's and boy's bicycle in a drawing for participants of the summer reading program. Only children aged 12 or younger who completed logs in the program were eligible for the drawing.

Anakkah Serrano, 12, of Ceres, won the girl's bike while Rene Mora, 5, of Ceres, won the boys bike.

Teens who completed a bingo card will be eligible to win a Nook HD. Jagjit Pabla, 15, of Ceres, won a Nook HD donated by Barnes and Noble in the Ceres Library's Summer Reading Contest. Pabla participated in the teen portion of the contest and his name was thrown into a hat for a drawing. He was among a number of teens who completed the reading of books and earned the chance to win the electronic reading device.

Adults who participated in the program have a chance to win themed-prize baskets and go on to the county drawing to win a tablet and an Amazon gift certificate.

A thumbprint craft will be offered at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21.

Lego Days will be offered at 3 p.m. on Thursdays, August 14 and August 28. During the Thursday, Aug. 14 Lego play session, the San Joaquin College will offer a health fair. From 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. blood pressure checks and vital sign checks will be offered as will time in a massage chair. United Way will be present to hand out information on Covered California and the Affordable Healthcare Act.

Story times will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays in August.
