A 54-year-old man who jumped into the Ceres Main Canal to rescue his two dog had to be rescued on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

At 10:08 a.m. Larry Newman of Ceres was walking his dogs along the canal bank behind Walmart when both fell in. Newman jumped in to retrieve them but then could not climb out of the swift-moving current. He stayed afloat until emergency personnel arrived.

With the help of the Ceres Fire Department, coming to the man's aid were Sgt. James Yandell, canine officer Julio Amador, and officers Pat Dayton and Jason Coley and Josh Klinge.
