At times, police officers go beyond the call of duty to help those in need. Such was the case on Monday, Nov. 23 when Officer Mike Vierra responded to a report of a man who had died in his sleep in the 1300 block of Tranquil Lane. Lorene Hoselton reported that her son and caretaker had passed away.

With Lorene being in her 90s and her caretaker gone, Vierra knew she would need some help since other relatives live outside of the area. A few days later, Officer Vierra checked on Hoselton to make sure she was doing okay. Lorene said she was hungry and needed groceries. Vierra collected money from B squad officers and bought some groceries for her. He also prepared her a warm meal.
