Pedestrian killed on rainy dark Mitchell Road

A woman died when she was struck early Friday morning while walking in the 2900 block of Mitchell Road.

Killed was Candace Cerda, 29, a native of Porterville.

Police said Cerda was wearing all dark clothing and struck at approximately 2:31 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene after officers and emergency medical personnel attempted to resuscitate her.

The northbound driver did not see the woman in the road and stopped immediately after the two collided.

Northbound Mitchell Road was closed between Colleen Road and Roeding Road as the Ceres Police Traffic Unit conducted a fatal traffic collision investigation. The Traffic Unit concluded a preliminary investigation at the scene around 6 a.m. at which time the roadway was re-opened.

This collision still is under investigation by the Ceres Police Department Traffic Unit. Anyone with information regarding the victim is encouraged to call Officer Keith Kitcher at 538-5620.
