• CHP asking for tips leading to driver
Crash

The California Highway Patrol is asking the public to help identify the driver of the vehicle or several vehicles that struck and killed a 25-year-old male pedestrian on Vivian Road Tuesday evening and took off.

The body of the dead man was reported to the CHP at 9:40 p.m. The body was found blocking the northbound and southbound lanes of Vivian Road, just south of Service Road. A CHP spokesman said the man had been struck by several vehicles but nobody reported hitting him or running him over as he was in the road.

CHP officers investigating the scene collected evidence at the scene in an attempt to identify the vehicle involved. The suspect vehicle will have moderate crash damage to the front including a damaged front bumper, front hood damage as well as a broken front windshield.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the man, who is purportedly from Illinois, but has not released his name pending notification of the next of kin.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run or a vehicle with such unexplained damage should call the CHP Modesto Area office at 545-7440.
