Registration starts for Ceres Adult School courses

Registration has begun for a number of classes and workshops offered this fall by Ceres Adult School.

Among the community courses is for adults to earn their high school diploma or GED beginning in August.

Community courses are offered for Ag Welding, School Bus Driver, Citizenship, PARA Bootcamp, Computer 101, Office Manager, PARA «ESSA» Test Preparation.

Back by popular demand is the Ceres Adult School’s partnership with Modesto Junior College that will be hosting a Hospitality and Culinary Bootcamp from Sept. 15 to Nov. 20 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Students will earn a ServSafe Certification which will open the door to higher-paying positions within food service. Spots are limited and expected to fill up fast. 

Ceres Adult School has partnerships with Modesto Junior College and Volt Institute. They include AC Motor Drive Training courses offered at the Ceres site.

Another course is Introduction to Ag Welding where students will learn how to arc weld, oxy-acetylene weld, cut, braze and wire feed welder. Students will get experience in basic project construction and certification may be available upon completion of the course.  Classes will be on Tuesday nights 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Sept. 2 to Dec. 16.

Adult School will also present a Paraprofessional “boot camp” and classes to prepare for Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) test preparation.

Custodial Training will be offered 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 8 to Oct. 22. Participants will learn the proper way of cleaning, disinfecting and safety procedures as well as hands-on training with various machines. Enrollment is limited.

Another class is an introduction to the office manager/school secretary position. It is offered 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 9 to Oct. 21.

A course in Computer 101 will cover the basics of computer understanding and skills. It will be held Tuesdays, noon to 2 p.m. from Sept. 9 to Dec. 9.

Certified Phlebotomy Technician, school bus driver and AC/DC basic electrical training is also offered.

School bus driver training will run Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 8 to Oct. 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This course will cover all mandatory classroom requirements to get a special driver’s certificate to drive a school bus in California. Also to be discussed are the other requirements needed to complete for the certificate. Behind-the-wheel training will be scheduled after the course.

A Citizenship Preparation Course will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 9 to Dec. 11. A bilingual afternoon course will be offered noon to 3 p.m.; while the evening course that runs 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. will be in English.

All programs are free with the exception of the EMT program.

Anyone 18 years of age or older may register for the Ceres Adult School program. Free childcare is offered for students with kids ages 1-12.
