An elderly Ceres man died Thursday as a result of injuries sustained in a savage attack the day before in his Morgan Road yard.

Bill Lee Turner, 71, was in his yard in the 1600 block of Morgan Road south of Hatch Road Wednesday when he was attacked. Turner was doing yard work in front of the vacant house, which was a rental property he owned. Neighbors called 911 when they saw Turner lying on the ground beaten. Sheriff's Department authorities said that the man sustained head injuries.

The attack occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Turner, the owner of a longtime business, Turner's Electric & Appliances, was taken by ambulance to a Modesto hospital where he died the next day.

Anyone with information on the attack or the suspect is urged to call Sheriff's Detective Jon McQueary at 525-7099.
