A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., today at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 505 W. Granger Avenue, Modesto, for Anna Marie Mantarro Hill, 81, of Modesto. She died June 23, 2010 after a brief illness.

Interment at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery is being handled by the McHenry Chapel of Franklin and Downs.

Born March 1, 1929 in Albany, N.Y.. Anna was the sixth of seven children born to Paul and Mary "Micia" Dominica Mantarro who came to America from Italy through Ellis Island. She came to the Modesto-Ceres area as a small child. A 1948, graduate of Ceres High School, Anna married Jerry Hill on Sept. 21, 1953, in Carson City, Nev. Anna taught catechism, and was involved in the PTA, scouting and little league. She enjoyed camping, traveling and being life-long San Francisco Giants fans.

She leaves behind her daughter, Patricia Hill Thomas of Modesto; her brother, Paul Mantarro, Jr.; and her grandson, Matthew Cody Thomas. She was preceded in death by husband of 53 years, Jerry Hill and son Jimmy Hill, her parents, and siblings Josephine, Mary, Don, Santo and Charlie; her mother and father-in-law, George and Mabel Hill.

Remembrances may be sent to the Stanislaus Health Foundation for the Anna Hill Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 302, Modesto, California, 95353; or to the Gallo Center for the Arts, 1000 I St., Modesto, CA 95354.
