A Mass was held Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Patterson for Anthony Edward Maciel, 79, of Vernalis. He died Sunday, July 24, 2005 at his home.

Hillview Funeral Chapel in Patterson was in charge of arrangements.

Born Oct. 9, 1925, Mr. Maciel was a native of Warm Springs and lived in Vernalis for 47 years. He was a self-employed farmer for 58 years. He belonged to the California Dry Bean Advisory Board. Mr. Maciel was a member of the board of directors of the West Stanislaus Irrigation District for 18 years. He belonged to the Lions Breakfast Club and the Elks Lodge, both in Tracy. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Patterson, as well as the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Maciel of Vernalis; children, Michael Maciel and Edward Maciel, both of Tracy, Linda Mineni and Rene Maciel, both of Modesto, Gail Faria and Annette Spencer, both of Riverbank, Jane Williford of Tracy and Joan Orth of Ceres; and 16grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Joseph Maciel.
