Stanislaus County Sheriff’s detectives are seeking clues to find the person who shot to death a man near the south end of the Seventh Street Bridge Sunday afternoon.
The victim’s identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., deputies responded to the area of River Road and Bystrum Road in the unincorporated area of Modesto following reports of an assault involving weapons.
Upon arrival, deputies located the victim on the ground with at least one gunshot wound. A passerby discovered the victim and began CPR before emergency responders arrived. Despite those efforts, he was declared at the scene.
Detectives assigned to the Sheriff's Department’s Major Crimes Unit responded and began the investigation.
Investigators have not identified a suspect and no arrests have been made. Detectives are actively pursuing leads and asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, observed suspicious activity in the area, or has information to come forward.
