Private services were held April 8 at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson for Betty Jane Lindsly, 80, of Hughson. She died April 1, 2008 at Emanuel Hospital in Turlock, from complications of congestive heart failure.

Born May 19, 1927, Mrs. Lindsly was a native of Baton Rouge, La., and lived in Cheneyville, La., where she graduated from Cheneyville High. Betty moved to California in 1947 where she lived in the Modesto, San Francisco and Concord areas. She received her teaching credentials from San Francisco State University. Mrs. Lindsly taught kindergarten through second grades in Concord, for almost 30 years before retiring to Hughson. She loved the Kentucky Derby and wearing of the hats, Mardi Gras and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ceres.

She leaves behind two daughters, Charner Anne Vann Davis of Ceres and Robin Conlon Udell of Arizona; her brother, Dr. John Lindsly of Bunkie, La.; two sisters, Cynthia Rutledge and Melissa Randle, both of Mississippi; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Emil "Buster" Lindsly and Dickie Lyles Larson, brothers Larry Joe "Buddy" Lindsly and Donald Lindsly, and daughter Candy Conlon Page.
