A funeral service was held Saturday at Lakewood Funeral Chapel for Carmen K. Vierra Martins, 82, of Ceres. She died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004 at Vintage Faire Convalescent Hospital in Modesto.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born July 17, 1922, Mrs. Martins was a native of California and had lived in Ceres for 40 years. She was a secretary for the Ceres Unified School District for 17 years. Mrs. Martins was a member of Ceres Senior Citizens, who enjoyed ceramics, camping, square dancing and travel.

She leaves behind her husband, Bill Martins of Ceres; three children, Jimmy Caropreso of Oregon, Michael Caropreso of Long Barn and Carol Elinburge of Arizona; four stepchildren, Anna Bailey of Ceres, Jean Jones of Florida, Linda Sipes of Iowa, and William Martins of Oregon; her brother, Jack Vierra of Texas; her sister, Mary Perreira of Los Banos; and 29 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
