A graveside service was held Friday at Ceres Memorial Park for Fred Olen Bezanson, 78, of Turlock. The former Ceres resident died peacefully on June 14, 2010 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

A memorial service followed at Calvary Baptist Church in Turlock.

The Ceres Chapel of Franklin and Downs was in charge of arrangements.

Born July 5, 1931 in Stillwater, Okla., Fred moved to Ceres with his family as a teenager, graduating from Ceres High School in 1949. He married his lifelong sweetheart, Lois Elwess, in 1953; they celebrated 57 years of marriage two weeks before his passing. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He used his old-fashioned work ethic in the poultry industry for almost 50 years. As a faithful servant of God, he loved and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He leaves behind his wife, Lois Bezanson of Turlock; six children, Mark Bezanson, Larry Bezanson, Dan Bezanson, Tammie Halsey, Scott Bezanson, and Rhonda Herrington; two brothers, Albert Bezanson of Lander, Wyo., and Phillip Bezanson of Ceres; two sisters, Jennie Keener of Ceres, and Phyllis Hurnland of Nashville, Tenn.; and 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Virginia Bezanson, sisters Georgia Sherwood and Marianna Langford and brother John McIntyre.
