A service was held Friday at the Hughson First Baptist Church for Helen Louise Starn, 83, of Hughson. She died Sept. 4, 2011 at Brandel Manor in Turlock.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Turlock Funeral Home.

Born Sept 9, 1927 in Boyd, Ky., Louise moved to the Turlock-Hughson area with her family as a young child. She met Rodney her freshman year of high school. They married in October of 1944. Rod and Louise celebrated their 50th anniversary with friends and family in 1994. Mrs. Starn faithfully served at Hughson First Baptist Church where she and Rodney worshiped their entire married life. Louise enjoyed reading, hiking in Yosemite, swimming, cooking and gardening. She fought Parkinson's disease for the last 15 years.

Louise leaves behind her children, David Rodney Starn and Joyce Louise Reed, both of Turlock, and Phillip Wayne Starn of Hughson; her brother, Raymond Stevens of Texas; and nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
