A funeral service was held Friday at Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Howard "Ike" Conrad Riggs, 80, of Hughson. He died Oct. 28, 2008 at Brandel Manor in Turlock.

Born March 1928 in Ceres to John Samuel and Ida May Riggs, Ike was raised in the Ceres/Hughson area, and graduated from Hughson High School. He was a farmer most of his life, but he was also a route salesman for Wonder Bread for 13 years. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard from 1945-47, California Young Farmers, California Kiwi Growers, Hughson Boosters Club, and Ceres Twisters Square Dance club. Howard joined the First Baptist Church of Hughson in 1955, and has been a regular attender of Monte Vista Chapel since 1999. Mr. Riggs enjoyed camping, fishing, water skiing, square dancing, and was an accomplished woodcrafter.

He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Rayetta Little Riggs of Hughson; four children, Karen Contreras and Peggy Enos, both of Turlock, Carlene Miller of Blackfoot, Idaho and Jerry Riggs of Hughson; his brother, Merle Riggs of Carson City, Nev.; two sisters, Virgie Rosenow of Ripon, and Pearl Mason of Carlsbad; and 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and seven sisters.
