James E. Lystra

Private services were held for James "Jim" E. Lystra, 85, of Modesto. He died May 3, 2011 of complications from Alzheimer's Disease.

Born Sept. 28, 1925 in Modesto to Nicolaus and Nellie Lystra, Jim was moved to Ceres a few years later where he attended grammar school and Ceres High School. He served as a paratrooper during World War II with the 13th and 82nd Airborne. Mr. Lystra retired after working 34 years for the U.S. Postal Service. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, sports, traveling, and spending time with his family. Jim and his wife also spent six weeks traveling across Europe, visiting most of the capitol cities of each country.

He leaves behind his wife; two daughters and a son; five grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
