EX-FELON ARRESTED WITH GUN IN CAR

A 27-year-old Delano man who was released from prison early by the state was arrested in a Wednesday evening, April 8 car stop in which a loaded gun was found under his seat.

At approximately 10:46 p.m., Officer Romy McClain and Field Training Officer Jacob Henn were on patrol in the area of Hatch and Herndon roads when they observed James Cook commit vehicle code violations in a Nissan sedan.

Officer McClain initiated a traffic stop and contacted Cook who became argumentative. Officers spotted a bag on the driver’s side floorboard between Cook’s legs. Once officers learned that Cook was on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and on probation, officers instructed Cook to get out of the car to conduct a compliance check. Cook refused to comply and continued being argumentative so they removed Cook him and handcuffed him. During the search, officers located a loaded TEC-9 semi-automatic pistol inside the backpack that had been positioned between Cook’s legs.

Cook was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center. Charges include carrying a loaded handgun not registered to him, carrying a loaded firearm in public, possession of an assault weapon, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, probation violation, driving on a license suspended for DUI, possession of marijuana for sales, and resisting arrest.

DRUG POSSESSION LANDS LOCAL IN JAIL

A 49-year-old Modesto man was arrested after he was stopped on his bicycle by police and found with narcotics.

At 2:27 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, Ceres Police Officer Greg Houser was patrolling the area of Central and Caswell avenues when he stopped Shay Gore for vehicle code violations. Gore had two felony arrest warrants, both related to drug possession.

Gore was also found in possession of a glass pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine.

He was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, and the two felony warrants and was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.

CERES MAN ARRESTED AFTER FLEEING OFFICER

Juan Torres, 21, of Ceres was jailed on Tuesday evening, April 7 after he led Ceres Police on a pursuit.

At 10:51 p.m., Sergeant Aaron Pinon was patrolling the area of Fifth Street and Caswell Avenue when he attempted to stopped Torres on a small, motorcycle for vehicle code violations. Torres sped off and a pursuit was initiated through residential streets, violating several laws before running into the backyard of a residence in the 2000 block of Hollister Street.

With the help of several Stanislaus County Sheriff deputies, a perimeter was established. After verbal commands were issued, Torres exited the residence and surrendered. He was arrested for fleeing officers in a vehicle and resisting arrest and was booked at the Public Safety Center.
