Everyone has a stake in keeping our planet healthy
Letter to editor

Editor, Ceres Courier,

Did you know the known universe contains an estimated septillion stars, each estimated to have at least one planet? Our brains can’t even really comprehend that number! And yet, out of this great vastness of space, and of the over 5,800 or so planets we know of, we have just one known to be able to sustain life: Earth.

April 22 heralds a worldwide celebration of this beautiful planet, OUR planet, for Earth Day. Communities gather to plant trees, clean up trash, donate to each other, or otherwise connect and honor the earth.

While individual acts like planting trees or cleaning up parks are vital, meaningful scale requires collaboration with our elected leaders. Our representatives provide the bridge to transform local concern into national progress. By working together, they can advance policies that reduce pollution and help nature heal, ensuring our children and grandchildren can still marvel at the wonders of our home.

Everyone has a stake in keeping our planet healthy; for those looking to get involved, you can find out more at citizensclimatelobby.org/get-loud-take-action/

To our representatives: thank you for listening and for seeking common ground across the aisle. Earth Day is for all of us, and bipartisan cooperation remains the most durable way to protect the one planet we all share. Out of all the planets in the universe, we’re all sailing on Spaceship Earth.

Azimuth Alea
