A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Lakewood Funeral Home for Jasper Herbert "Herb" Thomas, 72, of Hughson. He died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at Doctors Medical Center.

Born May 12, 1932, Mr. Thomas was a native of Akron, Ohio, and moved to Hughson after living 27 years in Modesto. Mr. Thomas was a maintenance person at Stanislaus Surgical Hospital for several years. He was an Air Force master sergeant, specializing in aircraft maintenance, and served two tours in Vietnam. Mr. Thomas enjoyed sports and socializing.

He leaves behind his wife, Mary Thomas of Hughson; three daughters, Nancy Thomas of Eureka, and Sandra Chapman and Rhonda Thomas, both of Hughson; five brothers, Louis Thomas of Jamestown, Kenneth L. Thomas of Modesto, and Kenneth B. Thomas, Jerry Thomas and Darrell Thomas, all of Akron; his sister, Barbara Martin of Modesto; and six grandchildren.
