A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Ceres Christian Church, 3502 Roeding Road in Ceres, for Jim J. Nevitt, 69, of Modesto. He died Nov. 2, 2008 at his home.

Born Oct. 1, 1939, Mr. Nevitt was a lifetime resident of the area and he owned and operated

Nevitt Cabinet Shop, Inc. for over 45 years. He also active in youth sports at the Red Shield Community Center in South Modesto for many years, receiving the "Volunteer of the Year" award. Jim loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, water skiing, and scuba diving. He also maintained an almond orchard and vegetable gardens. Mr. Nevitt was known for his contagious laugh and offering a good joke, animated story, or custom song lyrics.

He leaves behind survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Sharon Nevitt; his children, Linda Nowlen of Morgan Hill, James Nevitt of Ceres, Brian Nevitt of Modesto; and Tami Nevitt of Virginia Beach, Va.; his brother Frank Nevitt of Modesto; his sister, Cheryl Cheever of Campbell; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim B. Nevitt and Evelyn Nevitt.
