A Mass was held Friday, Nov. 13 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ripon for John Kisst, 76, of Escalon. He died Nov. 7, 2009 at his home after a long illness.

Burial was at St. John's Cemetery under the direction of P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home.

Born May 11, 1933 in Kenilworth, Utah to Greek immigrants Gust and Athena Kisst, John moved to California when he was a young boy. After graduating from Ceres High School in 1951, he joined the Navy and served on the S.S. Shangri La until his honorable discharge in 1955. John married Elaine Demichelis in 1957 and has lived in Escalon the remainder of his life. He worked as a cannery mechanic supervisor, spending over 25 years at Tillie Lewis Foods in Stockton. Mr. Kisst was a member of the Escalon Masonic Lodge where he served as Grand Master in 1967.

He leaves behind his wife Elaine Kisst of Escalon; his children, John G. Kisst of Ripon and Rachelle Hackett of Tracy; his siblings, Cleo Kazas, Gus Kisst and Mary Christi; and seven grandchildren including John Kisst Jr., Andrew Kisst, Alayna Kisst, Jenavieve Kisst and Jacqueline Kisst and Benjamin Hackett and Briana Hackett. He was preceded in death by sister Bessie Foster, brother Steven Kisst.
