Private services were held for John Leroy Steffenson, 77, of Ceres. He died Dec. 18, 2009 in Manteca.
Allen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Born April 1932, in Oshkosh, Wisc., to Gerald and Muriel Steffenson, John married Barbara in 1955. He earned his MD from the University of Wisconsin in 1957. Mr. Steffenson served in the Navy for 20 years. During his tenure in the Navy, he served on the flight surgery team for the Apollo and Gemini Missions. He also worked for Kaiser Permanente for 15 years. In his retirement, he split his time in California and Wisconsin. He was involved with Little League, PTA and softball when his children were in school.
He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Steffenson of Ceres; three children, Eric Steffenson, Shari Winner, and Dane Steffenson; his sister, Lila Overton; and four grandchildren.
