Leona B. Gilmore

Leona Bernice Gilmore passed away on Sept. 23, 2014 in Modesto at the age of 76.

Leona was born on Jan. 19, 1938 to Jessie and Gertrude Gentry in Roaring Springs, Okla. While living in Oklahoma, Leona met and married her true love, Edgar Doyle Gilmore. In 1958 Edgar and Leona moved their family to California and together they lived in the Modesto and Ceres area for more than 30 years.

Leona was very socially active with activities at Hylond Care Center, where she lived for the past three and a half years. She loved gospel music and was a devoted Christian. Above all else she loved and cared for her family. She will be remembered for her giving and loving spirit. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be deeply missed.

Leona leaves behind her children, Randy Gilmore (Charlotte), Rickey Gilmore (Elaina), Debbie Holt and Cynthia Rubio (Martin); her sister, Donna Rede (Jim); her brother, Harold Gentry (Louise); and 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Leona was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Edgar Gilmore and six siblings.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Franklin & Downs Funeral Home.
