A rosary and vigil service was held Thursday at Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Marge Nunes, 92, of Keyes. She died peacefully on June 18, 2012 at her home in Keyes after a battle with Parkinson's Disease diagnosed in 2008.

A funeral Mass was held Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Born as Margaret Irene Souza on Jan. 6, 1920 in Keyes to Tillie and John Souza, Marge attended Keyes Elementary School and graduated from Turlock High School in 1938. After marrying George Nunes in 1939, the couple found a home two years later which they would share until his death in 1993 and hers last week. She was a charter member of Young Ladies Institute (YLI), Antoinette Institute #193, in Hughson-Ceres and recently celebrated 62 years of fellowship with these women. At age 53 Mrs. Nunes and daughter Cathy Richardson,opened The Bookworm in Turlock. She enjoyed traveling to Europe and to annual Knights of Columbus conventions, but also enjoyed visits to Lake Tahoe, Santa Cruz, and Los Angeles for the USC/Notre Dame football games and Disneyland. In 1959 she saw young Queen Elizabeth II in Victoria, British Columbia; and in 1965 attended the World's Fair in New York City.

She leaves behind her children, Cathy Richardson of Mi-Wuk Village, Cynthia Motsinger of Novato, Jane Ales of Modesto, and George Nunes of Seattle; and six grandchildren: Chris and Carrie Motsinger, John Ales, and Annie, Cady and Cassandra Richardson.

Remembrances may be sent to YLI Antoinette Institute #193 to establish Mary's Garden, a memorial garden to be constructed at St. Anthony's Church in Hughson (c/o Pat McGuire, 4243 Tully Road, Hughson, CA 95326).
