A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres for Maura Zepeda, 75, of South Modesto. She died Aug. 19, 2010 in Modesto after a long battle with cancer.
Interment will follow the service, with a funeral procession from St. Jude's in Ceres to Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson.
Born June 6, 1935 in Agua Blanca, Quitupan, Jalisco, Mexico, to Aureliano Capistran and Guadalupe Barajas, Maura Capistran-Barajas immigrated to California in the late 1960s. She settled permanently in California in 1974 where she worked as a farmworker and in food processing for many years. Mrs. Zepeda successfully raised 11 children with her husband. She enjoyed singing, her faith in God, for spending time with family.
She leaves behind her husband of 59 years, Raul Zepeda-Orozco; her children, Eva Zepeda, Primitivo Zepeda, Gonzalo Zepeda, Cecilia Luna, and Raul Zepeda of Modesto, Jose Zepeda of Ceres, Alfonso Zepeda-Capistran of Sun Prairie, Wisc., Maura Paula of El Dorado Hills, and Alfredo Zepeda of San Francisco; eight siblings, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Maura was preceded in death by her parents, Aureliano Capistran and Guadalupe Barajas, sisters Carmen and Baudelia Capistran, and children Teresa, Maria Alejandra Alex, and Jose Eulalio.
