A private graveside funeral was held Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Minnie DeVe, 90, of Modesto. The ex-Ceres resident died May 16, 2010.
The Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.
Born Jan. 20, 1920 in Turlock, Minnie was one of 10 siblings of Thomas and Rebecca Webster. Minnie grew up in Ceres and was a 1937 graduate of Ceres High School. Mrs. DeVe was an employee of J.C.Penney at the store on 11th and J Street and then at Vintage Faire until her retirement in the mid 1980s. She had been a resident of English Oaks Convalescent Hospital in Modesto for six years.
She leaves behind her children, Marlene DeVe Stearns of Los Banos, Katrina DeVe of San Diego, Sharlene DeVe Aja of Modesto, Art DeVe Jr, of Palm Desert and Suzy Mees of Montana; her sister, Ruby Suikki of Newport Beach; eight grandchildren, Brent Steams, Darren Steams, Paul Steams, Steve Merchant, Melanie Dean, Holly Redwine, Jill Aja, Kelly Siefering, Angela Mees Menssen,and Rocky Mees; and 17 great-grandchildren.
