A Mass was held Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson for Robert “Beto” G. Villarreal Sr., 68, of Hughson. He died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.
Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Lakewood Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 9, 1937, Mr. Villarreal was a native of Rio Grande, Texas, and had lived in Hughson since 1959. He was a foreman at Villarreal Farms. Mr. Villarreal served as vice president of the Mexican-American Baseball League, for which he and coached for many years. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson. Mr. Villarreal enjoyed baseball and had coached many of his sons and grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife, Alicia Villarreal of Hughson; seven children, Roberto Villarreal Jr., Orlando Villarreal, Marko Villarreal, and Lisa Whiteside, all of Hughson, Diana Rios of Ceres, Maria Villarreal of Merced and Vanessa Rodriguez of Modesto; his brother, Guadalupe Villarreal of Hughson; seven sisters, Paula Hernandez, Rebecca Sanchez, Berta Saenz, Amada Saenz, Maria Saenz, Gregoria Davila and Dora Villarreal, all of Texas; and 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.
