Turlock Funeral Home was in charge of private services for Wesley Charles Shepard, 87, of Hughson. He died Sunday, July 24, 2005 at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Livermore.

Interment was at Turlock Memorial Park.

Born Oct. 19, 1917, Mr. Shepard was a native of Burlington, Vt., and had lived in Hughson since 1992 and previously had lived in Turlock since 1948. He retired after a 35-year career with Richard & Chambers Stationery; he was a manager. Mr. Shepard later worked part time for Lee Brothers Stationery in Turlock. Before getting into the stationery business, he worked for Osborn & Son Mercantile and Patton Music Co., both in Turlock.

Mr. Shepard was a member of the Turlock Steppin' Pards square dance club and an actor with Turlock Community Players. He enjoyed painting and golfing and was a regular at Fail's Donut Factory. He belonged to the Turlock Horsemen's Club and Masonic Lodge 395, Turlock. Mr. Shepard was a member of First United Methodist Church in Turlock. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1942 to 1946. He was a paratrooper instructor and attained the rank of technical sergeant. He served in the National Guard from 1947 to 1948.

He leaves behind two children, Brian C. Shepard of Shingle Springs and Judy Winters of Hughson; his sister, Ruth Jarrett of Burlington; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Green Shepard, and son, Bradley Shepard.
