A funeral was held Monday at Valley Christian Church for William Emmett Clowers, 76, of Ceres. He died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

Burial was at Ceres Memorial Park under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.

Born Aug. 12, 1927, Mr. Clowers was a native of Fort Worth, Texas, and had lived in Ceres since 1984. He was a welder for 40 years and had worked at Modesto Steel and Bambacigno Steel Co. Mr. Clowers was a member of the Valley Christian Center. He was involved in prison and jail ministries for 40 years; he belonged to the Gospel Mission Ministry and Rock Bottom Prison Ministry. Mr. Clowers enjoyed music, drawing and guitar. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1949 to 1955.

He leaves behind his wife, Lois J. Clowers of Ceres; five children, Sunnie Burton of Ceres, Daniel Clowers of Edmond, Okla., Douglas Clowers and Susan McDonald, both of Modesto, and Darrel Clowers of Panama City, Panama; his brother, Bobby Ray Clowers of Mansfield, Texas; and 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Ann Rodgers; and two sisters.
