The Ceres Dolphins recreational swimming club will close out the MVSL dual-meet season on Saturday at Ceres High School.

Ceres will host the Dolphins of Manteca.

Ceres’ first-place girls team (4-1) should collect its fifth victory.

Ceres’ boys team (1-4) currently sits in third place in the MVSL standings.

“We anticipate winning at both levels,” head coach Tracy Bull said. “They’re down on numbers this year. They may give us a good run.”

Zachary Jones (17-18 boys), Julia Pata (15-16 girls), Kaydence Bispo (7-8 girls) and Leilani Olanolan (6&under girls) will lead Ceres.

Jones, Pata, Bispo and Olanolan will look to finish the dual-meet season with perfect records.

“They’re very, good swimmers,’ Bull said. “They won’t be challenged.”

Ceres finished ahead of Manteca at the Tracy and Sea Dogs meets earlier this season.

Ceres and other MVSL teams did not compete this past weekend as they observed the Fourth of July holiday.

Ceres athletes practiced Monday through Friday.

Advanced and intermediate swimmers trained twice a day.

Advanced, intermediate and beginner competitors were required to swim 7,500, 5,000 and 1,500 yards, respectively, during the week.

“We practiced harder last week,” Bull said. “We did a lot of yards. Everybody is swimming at least a mile a day. We’re trying to get them ready for MVSL Championships.”

The MVSL finals will be staged on July 18 at West High of Tracy.

“We’re in an extremely, competitive league,” Bull said. “We expect to do well.”
