Bulldogs erupt for 44 runs in 2 games

Ceres High School's junior-varsity softball team put on a dazzling offensive display with a combined 44 runs in two league games last week.

"The girls have been taking extra batting practice," head coach Mike Corsaut said. "They want to get better."

The host Bulldogs blasted crosstown-rival Central Valley 22-2 in Western Athletic Conference play on Friday.

Ceres High accumulated 18 hits and nine walks against the Hawks.

Breanna DeLeon batted 2-for-5 from the plate with one triple and four RBIs.

Isabell Saldana batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Brittany Turnbow batted 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs.

Kinsey Ward batted 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBIs and three runs.

Destiny Reed batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Mikayla Whatley batted 2-for-5 with three runs.

Camron Diaz batted 1-for-3 with three walks and four runs.

"The girls just pounded the ball," Corsaut said. "Everybody was hitting."

Bulldog pitcher Julie Rosas allowed three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

Ceres High defeated Pacheco 22-4 on Wednesday in Los Banos.

Rosas tallied five strikeouts.

Turnbow finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Jasmine Esparza finished 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs.

Diaz finished 2-for-4 with three runs.

Larissa Vasquez doubled, walked twice and collected two RBIs.

Reed had two singles.

"The girls were dialed in," Corsaut said.

The fourth-place Bulldogs improved to 13-8 overall and 4-3 in the WAC standings.

Ceres High's final three games are against the conference's top three teams in Patterson, Los Banos and Livingston.
