Ceres High's varsity girls water polo team overcame a slow start to beat Modesto Metro Conference rival Enochs 13-2 last Thursday.

Kim Chambers tallied a career-high six goals for the host Bulldogs, who broke into the win column for the first time this season (1-2).

Priscilla Acosta and Kayla Gilmore both scored three times.

Sarah Walters added one goal.

Goalkeeper Kelly Yoder had 11 blocks.

Kaithlyn Reilly accounted for both of the Eagles' goals. Amanda Adams made eight saves.

"I surprised myself today," said Chambers, a second-year varsity player. "I didn't think I'd do that well."

Ceres High outscored Enochs 9-1 over the final two periods. Chambers and Gilmore had four and three goals, respectively. Acosta and Walters contributed one goal each.

"They turned it around in the second half," Bulldogs head coach Lesley Willems said. "Everything was better. Their passes. Their shots. They actually looked like a team."

The Bulldogs had a seven-day layoff between their last two games. Monday's practice (Sept. 22) was canceled and Tuesday's home contest (Sept. 23) was rescheduled due to pool maintenance at Ceres High.

"We only had one day of practice rather than two," Willems said. "Not being in the water had a little bit of an effect on us today."
