The Central Valley High School varsity boys basketball program's starting lineup looked vastly different during last week's opener.

All-league players Camron Thornton and Miguel Rodriguez are no longer on the team.

Camron graduated in June.

Miguel Rodriguez was dismissed for an unspecified reason.

"We have a young team," Hawks head coach Darryl Dickson said.

Central Valley didn't miss a beat in posting a 65-31 victory over host Denair on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

The Hawks had a balanced scoring attack as 10 different players contributed.

Juan Manriquez, Central Valley's 6-foot-8 310-pound center, tallied a team-high 13 points.

Jordan Thornton and Parker Griffin collected 10 points apiece.

Manuel Garcia and Abraham Navarro totaled nine and six points, respectively.

Jaron Dickson and Amrit Chahal chipped in with five points each.

Diego Sanchez scored three points.

Kenneth Padilla and Tranjit Singh both had two points.

Tristen Lima paced the Coyotes with 11 points.

The Hawks forced more than 20 turnovers.

Central Valley outscored Denair 21-2 in the first quarter on its way to building a 37-7 lead in the opening half.

"We hit some shots early and our defensive pressure was really effective," Darryl said. "It's a good start. We did what we were supposed to do. We didn't struggle."

"Our starters did a really good job," Jaron said. "We put in on them early. We came out with high intensity. We played well."
