Ceres High School's varsity girls golf team moved into second place in the Western Athletic Conference last week.

"I think we can do even better than this," Bulldogs head coach Randy Cerny said. "We have a goal of solidifying our position and trying to make it competitive with (2010 WAC champion Central Catholic). We're going to give it our bet shot."

Ceres High (4-1) had a half-game lead over Livingston (4-2) in the league standings as of last Sunday. The Bulldogs won the head-to-head meeting 156-159 on Thursday at River Oaks.

Senior Arleen Xayasone led the Bulldogs with a 6-over-par 33.

Freshmen Cailtin Pfaff, Kinsey Ward and Erica Hogner shot 34, 44 and 45, respectively.

Ceres High topped visiting Patterson 160-187 on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Pfaff fired a 6-over-par 33.

Xayasone (37), Hogner (44) and Jessica Ellsworth (46) rounded out the Bulldogs' scorecard.

"The girls are having a lot of fun," Cerny said.
