Ceres High School's varsity baseball team earned a much-needed, two-game series sweep of Valley Oak League rival Weston Ranch.

Sophomore starting pitcher Tyler Cummings allowed one hit and struck out seven over four innings as the Bulldogs posted an 8-3 victory over the host Cougars in Game 2 last Thursday.

With the win, Ceres High improved to 7-4 on the year and 3-3 in the VOL standings.

Cummings also contributed on offense with a single, a run and an RBI for the Bulldogs, who totaled nine hits in 31 at-bats (.290).

Ceres High slugger Robert Cope doubled, singled, scored once and drove in two runs. He fanned five batters, gave up one run and surrendered a single while pitching three innings of relief.

Martino Bertolotti batted 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Tyler Brenning singled and knocked in a run.

Josh Edwards contributed a single, a run and an RBI.

Freshman Nick Welsh singled and scored once.

Grant Hurst added a run.

Ceres High outscored Weston Ranch 8-1 during the final six innings. The Bulldogs tallied three runs in both the third and fourth frames.

Bertolotti surrendered three runs, scattered five hits and tallied one strikeout in a 14-4, five-inning blowout of Weston Ranch in Game 1 on Tuesday, March 24 at Art McRae Field.

Martino also collected two doubles and scored four times to lead Ceres High's 12-hit offensive attack.

Cummings had a career-day at the plate. The sophomore batted 4-for-4 with a homer, three runs and five RBIs.

Cope singled twice, scored three times and drove in one run.

Edwards and Dustin Baisdon both singled and drove in a pair of runs.

Brenning knocked in a run and scored once.

Welsh singled and scored a run.

Hurst and Jimmy Chesney also scored.

Mark Schwark singled.

The Bulldogs plated four runs in the first inning, three in the second, five in the third and two in the fifth.
