The Ceres Dolphins recreational swim team was supposed to compete against Oakdale and Modesto this past weekend.

Ceres faced two different opponents due to a scheduling conflict.

The Dolphins racked up 22 first-place finishes, 16 seconds, 20 thirds, 14 fourths, 15 fifths, 18 sixths, seven sevenths and 15 eighths while losing to Ripon and Tracy on Saturday at Ripon High School.

The Sea Lions, Tritons and Dolphins totaled 1,369, 941 and 692 points, respectively.

"I'm pretty happy with our performance," Ceres head coach Tracy Bull said. "We swam well against two of the best teams in the league."

Victor Cruz (17-18 boys), Haley Fisicaro (15-16 girls), Ricardo Cano (9-10 boys), Jordan Shinn (7-8 boys), Jadyn Shinn (9-10 girls), Cheyenne Brazil (13-14 girls), Julia Pata (11-12 girls) and Camryn Silva (9-10 girls) led the way.

Cruz, Fisicaro, Cano and Jordan Shinn posted a combined record of 12-0 against Ripon and Tracy while sweeping their individual events.

Jadyn Shinn set a personal record in the 100 IM (1:18.57). She upset previously-unbeaten Madesyn Ronquillio of Tracy.

"That was the best race of the day," Bull said. "Jadyn never gave up the lead."

Brazil set personal records in the 50 breast (first place) and 100 free (seventh place). She returned to the pool following an extended break. Kaitlynn Louis, Cheyenne's cousin, lost her life in an ATV accident on June 23.

"When tragic things happen, you have to get back to normalcy," Bull said. "To see her smile for the first time in two weeks was gratifying. It's been very difficult for her."

Pata, a second-year swimmer, had plenty of motivation prior to competing in the 100 free. Julia's father promised to buy her a puppy if she eclipsed the 1:05 mark for the first time.

Pata placed third in 1:04.93.

Julia brought Milo 104, her white Daschund-Maltese, to practice Monday morning.

"That's something she was chasing all year," Bull said. "Her dad thought it was a safe bet."

Silva set a personal record in the 50 fly (fifth place, 44.88 seconds) on her 10th birthday.

"She looked phenomenal against a talented field," Bull said.
